Wastewater containing Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) presents significant challenges for sewer systems because FOG can be corrosive and abrasive. Additionally, it may cause blockages, sewer backups, or overflows that damage infrastructure, properties, and the environment. To reduce FOG in the sewer system, the Anchorage Water & Wastewater Utility (AWWU) plans to construct a new FOG Receiving Station, which would be a centralized facility for the collection and processing of FOG. The project will include site selection, process design, stakeholder coordination, public engagement, permitting, construction, and commissioning of the facility.
